Paulaner Hefe-Weißbier Dunkel

- A Dunkelweizen is a dark Hefeweizen bier.
- This is one of my favorite beers available in Germany. Even though it's dark in colour, the taste is complex but not overpowering. It's like a more flavourful Hefeweizen.

Freibergisch Export Spezial

Type: Pale Lager (apparently...)

- I didn't write this while I tasted it, so I don't remember exactly what it tasted like. But it was a pretty good beer.
- It's an export, so the alcohol is a little higher than normal.

Sternburg Schwarzbier

- The German Beer Institute, has a great explanation of this beer. It's a great site for learning about all the different beer types available in Germany.
- It is a dark beer by colour, but it does not have a strong flavour. When I first had this beer out of the bottle, I didn't realize that it was a dark beer. I like it a lot.

Einsiedler Landbier

- You can check out the German Beer Institute for the definition of a Landbier. It's a really vague definition. From the taste, I can describe it as somewhere in between a pilsner and a dark beer.
- It's quite flavourful but still refreshing. It's also light on the hops. I like it.

Landskron Maibock

Type: Maibock (dark lager)

My Rating: 7/10

- According to Wikipedia, a Maibock, or Bock, is a strong lager.
- Landskron is a pretty good beer if you like stronger flavours, which is what I like sometimes. Considering how strong it is, it isn't very bitter. It has a nice sweeter flavour would typically find in a stronger beer.

Feldschlößchen Pilsner

- Feldschlößchen Pilsner is a beer local to Dresden.
- It has just the right amount of hops and a very slight hint of the sweet taste you would get from a dark beer.
- Like all pilsners, it's great for a hot summer day at the beer garden.

Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen

Type: Hefeweizen (wheat beer)

- Hefeweizen is a type of beer that isn't very common in Canada. In my local beer store, the only Canadian wheat beer available is Upper Canada Wheat. Of course there are imports available from breweries such as Paulaner. In the US, I found the Pyramid Hefeweizen quite good. A hefeweizen is a different tasting beer and generally lacks the hoppiness found in "regular" beer.
- Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen is an excellent wheat beer. It is smooth and light. However, it is a little on the light on the flavours, but it is very refreshing. It is much better than the Upper Canada Wheat beer which, if I remember correctly, has an unpleasant aftertaste.
- I give it a rating of 8.5/10...

Meissner Schwerter St. Afra Dunkel

- German beer isn't just Pilsners. There's the Dunkel beer (dark beer). I would compare this to an English dark beer (an Ale?, I really don't know too much about beer).
- It is very flavourful (in a good way), but not overpowering. The aftertaste is also good.
- This isn't the beer for a hot summer day, but when you're feeling for a tasty flavourful beer, a Dunkel might be a good choice.
- In comparison with other dark beers, I give this 8/10.

Feldschößchen Radler

Type: Radler (50% Pilsner, 50% Sprite)

- Radler literally means biker (on a bicycle). It is 50% Pilsner, 50% Sprite. It's surprisingly good. It's sweet, and it has a hint of beer taste. There's another drink called a Diesel, which is 50% Pilsner, 50% Coke.
- This is not my type of drink. I prefer just to have beer.

Budweiser (Budvar)

My Rating: 6-8/10 in bottle, 9/10 from tap.

- The original Budweiser from the Czech Republic, not to be mistaken for the shitty American beer that shares the same name.
- A very good beer. A delicious almost creamy taste. Very even flavours, very nice aftertaste.
- Unforunately, I found the bottled variety varied in quality. The bottled beer I took home from České Budějovice tasted really good. However, I tried a bottle in a bar in Dresden, and it tasted horrible. I suspect part of the problem is that green bottles don't protect as well as the brown bottle from harmful light, which makes beer taste skunky. Budweiser from the tap is the best way to drink it. Too bad you can only get that in the Czech Republic (as far as I know).
